A holiday in the Italian countryside
An agriturismo is a farm with luxury holiday accommodation. In the form of rooms in a b&b, for instance, apartments in a renovated country home, or a luxury private villa. They make wine and olive oil, and grow cereals and vegetables. When you stay in an agriturismo, you will experience the authentic Italian country life, whilst surrounded by the Tuscan hills with fields of grain, olive trees and cypresses. Maybe you have to drive the last few kilometres on a dirt road. Don’t let that put you off, that’s all part of the charm!
Volterra as your holiday destination
Volterra is an atmospheric medieval town situated high on a hill overlooking the Cecina valley. Here you can indulge in ancient streets and buildings. At the edge of town are the remains of a Roman amphitheatre. The beautiful town is not without a number of lively bars, restaurants and terraces. Really delicious food is served in Osteria Fornelli, a traditional Tuscan restaurant. Because the village is so high up on the hill, it offers wonderful panoramas. Fields of grain and olive groves stretch to the horizon. The panoramic route up to Volterra is especially recommended. Along the way, there are several places where you can stop to take photos.
An agriturismo near Volterra
There are several agriturismos around Volterra that I have specially selected for you. These agriturismos are often very suitable for a holiday with children. There is plenty of room for play and discovery. Some of the agriturismos offer communal dinners with Tuscan specialities/dishes. And a 45-minute drive takes you to the sunny beaches of Cecina and Castagneto Carducci.
